Dr. Jan Kohlmann was born in 1976 in Eutin. After graduating from high school, he took his first state examination in law after studying in Heidelberg and Berlin. This was followed by a doctorate in Kiel and legal training with stations at national and international law firms, including Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, as well as the second state examination in Hamburg. Dr. Kohlmann was admitted to the bar in 2006.

After several years as a lawyer with Lovells (now HoganLovells) and Graf von Westphalen, Dr. Kohlmann advised the real estate division of Union Investment as an in-house lawyer. He has been a lawyer at the law firm Mittelstein since 2020.

Dr. Kohlmann mainly advises on real estate law. In addition to the legal review and support of real estate transactions (purchases and sales as asset or share deals in various asset classes, e.g. commercial, residential, logistics and hotel properties), his main areas of practice include ongoing asset management advice for real estate (in particular questions of tenancy and construction law). As a consequence of his time at Union Investment, another focus of his advice is supervisory law.  From this time, Dr. Kohlmann knows the specific expectations of a precise and comprehensive legal service in the aforementioned areas and supports his clients accordingly.

Dr. Kohlmann is married and has three children. His hobby is hunting.
